Meter Technology is a private enterprise that produces water meters. The boss, Sun Weiguo, is a hands-on technical talent who has led research and development for years, following through on production. As the author, I had the honor of meeting Mr. Sun while supplying potting machines for water meter production at Meter Technology. He is a professor-like figure—wise and humble. During a meeting, technicians discussed production capacity, and when they mentioned a number, Mr. Sun immediately responded, “That number is incorrect. The correct one should be…” I was truly astonished at that moment—a boss who knows the production data of a large enterprise’s assembly line like the back of his hand.

As a manufacturer of equipment with thousands of clients, Meter Technology is the only one where our machines couldn’t fully meet their production needs. They modified the equipment themselves, then shared the improvements with us, allowing us to upgrade the machines and deliver them again. In the words of Meter Technology’s team: “We know our products best; only we understand what kind of machine suits us.” Mr. Sun also left me with a memorable saying: “Don’t automate for the sake of automation. To achieve the actions a machine can perform, first simulate them with humans before building the machine.”
